Default Beemer tyres

Sorry to be non-pcar topic , but I'm looking for summer highway tires for my BMW 325i. I've been running Bridgestone Blizzacks during the winter on a car that mostly sits in a garage and gets used when we get to town. (Blizzacks are icredible, by the way)

Snow's gone and these babies will at least four more winters so I'm looking for some highway tires for this ride.

Yokes? Toyo's? other suggestions.

Mostly highway miles, but I like to 'drive it like I stole it.'

Any recommendations?

Cheers,

Michael[/b][/i]

Jeeze, soo many decent street tires to choose from. Guess you have to choose between great (Bridgestone SO3's, etc) and medocre (Kumho ECSTA, Yoko ES100's). Since these tires are for a totally driven street car, you probably won't be using the expensive street tires to their max potential. If it were me, I'd want to max out the mileage/$$. Kumho's are good, cheap street tires and wear a LONG time as are the Yoko ES100's (little more expensive). The Bridgestone SO3's and Toyo T1-S are great street tires, but will cost 2x and may not live as long either. Again, just MHO.

Michael,

We have a 323 Touring that uses winter tires as well during the cold months.

Around March I switch to 19" BBS CH's. They are shod with Kumho Ecsta MX's. They grip very well in rain or dry. I did have an issue with one of the sidewalls, but Kumho replaced them under warranty.

The OEM Bridgestone Turanza's were grippy in the dry but not as grippy in the rain.

Like Charlie said, for a street tire, you really can't go wrong with any of the major brand tires. So price/value will be the determining factor.

Let's us know what you choose

Visit www.tirerack.com.

Read the reviews and look a the rankings and then balance your performance desires against your budget and make your choice. I have always found the survey information to be pretty accurate with one exception -- respondents are much more likely to accept flaws in a low priced tire and, as a result, rank it higher than it deserves. Just understand that low price typically means cheap (and I don't mean that in a good way)... and if it is ranked high it may be pretty good, but still isn't going to be as good as the top-ranked and expensive tires.

BTW. Since you have snows for the winter, you can go for a max performance 3 season tire... which, while pricey, will be very impressive in the dry! Here's a link to the max perf survey page:

Michael:

What "tahrs" did you get for the BMW? I am assuming it is a more modern 16"+ rim ... yes? I am getting ready to re-shod my BMW and I think I am going to go for the new Toyo T1Rs [have winter tahrs / wheels already] and ... Pipes will fall over ... might upgrade to 16" rims Besides, don't we all need at LEAST three sets of wheels and tahrs for our cars ... Porsche or not?

Cheers,

Jase

Hey Jase,

I went with Yokes. They're 205/60 15's though. same wheels, just swappin' rubber...

like 'em so far, only about 200 miles on them though, cause it's a car that sits in the garage of my Colo. house unused most of the year.

At this rate both sets of tyres ( Blizzakss and Yokes) will last me many, may , many years each!!

Let us know what you get!

Cheers,

Michael
