After only 6 months I finally got under the car to replace the clutch cable. When dealing with the pedal end, I discovered that it was not the cable at all, but the pedal arm that had failed. Apparently, the orginal nylon bushing had completely worn through and fallen out, leaving the clevis to wear on the arm metal-on-metal. The ring at the end of the arm where the clevis attaches had about a 3/8" gap where it failed. Looks like I'll be replacing the pedal shaft and rebuilding the pedal cluster (with bronze bushings). Guys with older cars might want to check that bushing if it hasn't been replaced yet.

Oh, and this might be something to look at on PPI's. It only takes a couple of minutes to check.
