Default Water leaking in passenger side - 86 targa

I am out of fixes. When it rains a small amount of water pools in the lower part of the dashboard on the passenger side of my 86 Targa. No leak is evident until you drive off and water splashes out beside the vent (not from within) right between where the dashboard and door meet. I have sealed the windshield and replaced the door seal. The roof is not leaking and has a good seal. There is no evidence of water anywhere on the inside of the car before you drive. It happens more when the car is parked in the rain then when driving.

Any thoughts

Brett:

All my cockpit leaks [80 911... 73 2002 ] have been the result of leaking windshield gasgets.. By saying " I have sealed the windshield " does that mean you replaced the gasget or put some "sealer' on the windshield/gasget junction?

good luck

Kim:

I have just put on the sealer b/w the gasket and windshield. Sounds like I should replace the whole gasket?

I have chased these on my '76 for years. I would bet [and I don't gamble] 99% sure is the windshield gasket. I too have replaced F targa to windshield frame seal, F targa bar seal, door jam seals, targa top side seals. Only thing left is windshield gasket seal.

There is an art to getting the F corners of top to seal/t correctly which involves adjustments to window rails via the door. Also, might need to adjust strikers on door jams when replacing door seals b/c of new material in there. This also affects the top front corner "junction" where windshield frame, door window frame and top come together.

You might try this. Open the door. Put some silicone sealer under the seam where the fender abuts the body. Seal any other seams. I had water in the glove box and that was the source, not the windshield. Good Porsche mechanical rule to follow is "Do the cheap easy stuff first."

I would first try to locate the source of the leak. One way to do this is to apply chalk dust or talcum powder around all the seals, gaskets and joints. Then apply your water either from a hose or let mother nature do its thing this weekend. The path of the leak should be visible. Good Luck!
