Default IT'S DROP TIME!!!!!!!

Now that I got your attention it isn't actually an engine drop, more like a pan drop. I need to replace the front pan and was hoping I could get some (okay, A LOT) of help, especially from folks who know how to weld or are named Kurt or both. I want to drive this car but since I decided to become self employed shelling out $1500 to Karroserie is out of the question even though the results would probably be fantastic. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Pete

Pete,

Since I'm right down the street, I will be happy to help (however I don't know what I'm doing - I can take directions well ). Tell me when!

Steve

Who, Me? Front pan replacement is time consuming and careful labor intensive work. How bad is the pan, some rust, totaly gone and some of the side metal too? Can you post pix of the work needed?

Is your car movable? I will not be able to help out at your location but we might be able to spend some late night time on it in the Taj. This is not a one day fat pills and BS with the gang while tinkering type of project and I know it don't sound Dorki but some compensation for time and materals would be required or the CFO will toss my butt out on the front lawn and lock down the shop. I wouldn't imagine not paying for time, labor and material on something like this. I would of course buy all the pan parts needed, Package "D" from Restoration Design ($195 for the pan and gas tank support, hopefully all I need) as well as whatever misc supplies are needed. I have a new a-arm on the way so I suppose I can try to bolt it up to what's left of the pan and nurse it over, if not then I will have to have it trailered. Being a complete novice in the replacement of structurally neccessary unibody components let me know if this is way too much. I'm trying to heed some of the advice Dave Riley gave me when I bought the car "make sure the gas tank is empty and far away from the car when you start welding".

Here are some pics of the affected areas. There is no rust beyond the front of the pan and the front a-arm attach points. I included to old a-arm for fun, no wonder the car was a bit pigeon toed!

Please send me a PM when you guys start this project as I'll monkey tools in exchange for the opportunity to help and hopefull learn the replacement/welding process. This is a pending project for my '73 so I think a real time education will prove invaluable.
