Man is Ebay a love hate thing or what!? I just 'won' a truck, and missed a bike by 2 seconds are the most. I might need to block ebay.com at the firewall, this is getting out of control.

Anyone else make an ebay purchase they had to think twice about? With the truck I put in a low bid that surprisingly met the reserve and was high bid, but with 2+ hours to go. Some one else is going to bid, right?

I cant wait to hear what the neighbors say about this beast.

FWIW One of my buddies suggested the way to buy on ebay was to wait until the last minute, really the last ten seconds, then submit your bid (with the maximum you are willing to pay in the escalation part of the bid). He suggests you don't bid at all before the last minute.

If two bids come in at the close they extend the bid for 30 seconds or so to complete the auction.

Having been outbid on several items, I tried his MO and it worked first time.

It's called sniping. Only way to go. Don't show your hand.

No question, I hate E-bay
Learned to hate it when Linda was trading in Beanie Babies some years ago
Reinforced when I see what it has done to used Porsche parts prices and swap meets in general. Fortunately, I have a couple of friends that feel the other way and occasionally find “real deals” for me. i.e. my none cracked 931 manifold for under $200 (retail $1,080 direct from Porsche +shipping from Germany ), thanks again Danny
