Default Bike Advice

The itch is getting pretty bad this year. Any advice on a bmw k75 or 100? I've been through the speed racer phase, have no interest in Harleys and have always like the utilitarian look of BMW's. From everything I've read they are *the* bike you can take for a 3 hour ride and actually enjoy after 30 minutes. In retrospect my sport bikes of yesteryear were uncomforable and a literal pita. I dont want to spend more than a couple grand, 4 tops, so new is out of the question.

This k100rs is for sale and just looks awesome. I've never riden one though, any advice on one of these? The Honda VFR, or whatever it's called now, was on my short list a few years ago, any other suggestions?

That thought has crossed my mind more than a few times.

Problem w/ a Duc, Chris (althought it is my favorite make) is that a monster has a very low seat. Too low for you and I. Also, to get a well maintained Duc will be on the 4+ scale. (I still drool over the 916-998s) As for the BMW, just make sure all the maintenance has been done, especially the drive shaft lube and adjustments and valve adjustments (here is where my shaft drive Yamaha XS-11 kicks BMWs but, well that and the 1/4 mile) Remember the BMW is famous for only being able to beat a hog off the line but they are rugged and good riders. If you are thinking Duc, try an ST2 or ST4.

Chris,
You have connections you don't yet know about.
Rebecca Morgan [green hair, ran registration for the VIR event, avid Pcar track rat, drived teh Land Rover Disco with Ducati Girl on the back] is married to the Duc dealer in Richmond, VA.

Maybe email her that you are jonesing for a Duc in a price range, and who knows what they might find at auction or as a trade?? PM me for details.

No kidding. If I only had the space and $$ it might not be a problem.

Good info TK, I had no idea.

I really need to get on a bike and ride, something! It's been so long getting back in the saddle might not be what I had such fond memories of.

I like the idea of a bmw with backs and a little wind protection. Plus, the german thing is in my blood. However, the Monster is just sexy. No bag, no protection. Maybe I need 2?

That's why I suggested a DUc st. YOu can travel w/bags, or remove them, swing up the exhaust and have a sport bike. Heck, the st4 has the sportbike (998 I think) engine!!
