Default Porterfield Brake Pads

Anyone have any experience with Porterfield R-4 or R-4S compound brake pads??

Thanks in advance.

Word on the street is that these are the same pads as sold by Pete Tremper (derSix) - in fact all the "cool carbon" or "carbon kevlar" pads are made by the same people. That could all be marketing hype.

I ran them (derSix's) at SP in March and liked them a lot, but what the hell do I know, it was my first track event. No fade, though. The do squeal on the street, if that matters. Tony always spoke highly of them, which is why I got them. That and they were relatively cheap ($180 for the car) when compared to PFC97 or Pagids.

Mark,
Porterfield are the very same carbon kevlar pads that DerSix sell for way less money. There is only one manufacturer of these pads. Porterfield, DerSix and others brand them and sell them. They are the same product.

My advice? Forget the R4S, go with the R4. Great track pad, and good on the street. They warm up fairly quickly [slower than stock, though]. Some cooling ducts will close to double their track life.
Get 'em from Pete Tremper at 1 800 881 7049
BTW, Pete might know as much about Porsche brakes as anyone I know.

Just saw Chris' post. Great minds in perfect alignment.

Marc
I switched from Pagid Orange on the 930 to Porterfields R4's and did not notice terribly different stopping charachterstics in 2 track sessions. The plus was not having to switch for around town driving. Pagid's squeal louldy as most these guys know. I also went with the Pfields on the 944 turbo I had briefly - two track sessions as well as around town driving. Two Pcars ups

best

Marc,
They would be a good start for the track car. You might want [need] a more agressive pad, but the time to make the change is when you are cutting through the Carbon pads too quickly.
