Default New Headliner, glass removal?

I was quoted $325.00 for a new headliner installed materials included for an 1984 911 w/sunroof. Shop rep during phone conversation said glass removal was not necessary. Is this right?

Not unless they know a trick I don't. I replaced my headliner last summer, and can tell you first hand that to do it correctly, glass removal is necessary. The headliner glues around the lips that the glass seals sit around. If they're telling you no glass removal is necessary, then they are either taking a shortcut (bad, IMO) or don't know exactly what they are talking about. A lot of guys will tell you "sure, we do that all the time" to get you in the shop, then find out half way through the job that a Porsche 911 is unlike any other car they've done. This is usually when they start asking for more money.

I echo Chris. Just had a headliner installed at Rankin in Gaithersburg for $250. I supplied the headliner which cost less than $100. My glass was already out, but I don't think the headliner can be installed without removing both the front and real glass.
