Default Shift lever modifications?

Okay here is the problem that I need to resolve. I have a 1974 911 (thanks to Dave Riley again) that is supremely comfortable and roomy. Until I try to shift. I'm 6'4" and I fit really well in the car (once I get in, remember I can't bend my spine). The stock feel of the shifter in these cars has been generously refered to as "a bit loose". Since I can't do anything about my size, other than girth, what can I do so I can comfortably shift into first and second gear?

I see the short shifts kits that come with the shift lever, is the lever the same length as stock? I have a new ball cup bushing and will try to install my brass coupler bushings, my first attempt I cracked the coupler, but I don't think it will much affect where the shift lever goes.

Anyone ever heard of modifying the lever to put a dogleg into it?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Pete

It’s just a peace of steel so there’s no reason the lever above the boot can’t be heated and bent or simply replaced with a new peace to your specs. The short shift kit extends the bottom part. Go to JEGS,com to se some of the shifter options for other cars for ideas.
Most everyone is still at SP so if you wait you will likely get some other ideas. Did you get the font pan replaced yet?

Pan replacement is the last thing on my list to get it ready to drive. Okay, maybe not the last thing, I also need a new left a-arm. My budget doesn't really afford me the Karosserie avenue anymore, I'm looking for other possibilities. I love this littel car, now I want to drive it!
