Default Differences between model years

When he first purchased my car, the PO ordered an owners manual from the dealership he purchased the car from. The dealer was unable to obtain a 1989 Carrera manual and he canceled the order. He was kind enough to try and order one for me from a manual company in Baltimore. They found a 1989 manual for him, shipped it to him and he directly shipped it to me. The problem is that 1989 Carrera manuals are NLA, and what I was sent was a 1989 Carrera 4 manual. I contacted the company to try and arrange a swap. They looked into it and found that 1989 Carrera manuals are truly NLA and told me that the closest thing he could probably get me was a 1986 manual. Now, I already have one 1989 manual I purchased off of ebay, but it is in such good shape and came in the plastic I would like to keep that in the house, and having one in the car would be helpful.

What I am asking is, would this owners manual ('86) be good enough to help me. As in, spare tire procedure, climate controls, switchgear, are they the same from '86 to '89? If they are close enough, I will go ahead and arrange that swap. Any info would be most appreciated. I apologize for the length of this post for such a simple question.

TYIA.

An ’86 wouldn’t be the best anyway. A lot of changes were made in ’87, but the ’88s are available, if not new then Heresy’s coming up and e-bay has them regularly.
