Default Numbers on the car?

I have a set of numbers for both doors, but I vaguely remember reading on the PCA site that there is a requirement for the front (hood) numbers as well? Should I start creating a 3rd set of numbers or is that "optional"?

Dave,
You need three sets - door numbers plus either hood or windscreen.

I have not looked at a PCA website yet regarding numbers. I typically use shoe polish and put my number on both rear side windows. Is this not acceptable?

Can you direct me to the info I should actually read?

Dave,
Shoe polish is fine, as is any other technique that results in clear numbers that corner workers can read as you flash by at high speed. To understand the issue, stand at pit-out for a session and count the cars that you really have to work to read the numbers.

I think the original question was along the lines of "If I'm graduating to solid numbers like magnetics or vinyl cling or a full-on race paint job, how many numbers and where should they go."

If you are getting numbers made up or painted, be aware that at different events you may have different numbers. Numbers should be 6 inches tall. Shoe polish is great and don't forget if its raining put the numbers on the inside Mirror written. See lots of people coming through in the rain not able to keep the numbers on the car. Also keep the Techs happy by having your numbers on before you come through Tech and make sure you have Tech Form completed where appropiate, helmet and car empty of loose extraneous objcts. Also appreciated if you show up early when Tech opens, if you are too lazy to get to Tech on time, tech inspectors may get too lazy to tech you car till its convenient for them some time in the afternoon!

that sounds like status quo for every other DE I've attended...(basic common sense)... the reason I asked is b/c I already have door numbers and I have some extra material and wasn't sure whether I should take up "arts-'n-crafts" again

as for number changes, I have a spare set of "1's"- now I just need them in triplicate

Coleman Power Sport in Falls Church on Lee Highway has stick on numbers in the 6" size. I did the whole car for about $5. They are PCA tech approved as well.
