Default C7S - Boxter Based Coupe

Found this link/article on PP. Finally, Porsche is taking the great Boxter base and building a dedicated 'drivers' car. If they build them in numbers (like the Boxter) I can see this being the track machine to have 10-15 years from now.

Lets hope this becomes reality. I especially like the part about the CS model.

It looks very nice, but to me it begs the question what will happen to the 911?

For $60K starting, it would seem to me that this car would take away almost all sales of the “entry” 911 (Carrera). I mean, better drivers car, almost as much power, less money. Only a few people would not purchase this over a base 911.

I have also heard from a salesman at a local dealership that Porsche is considering separating the natural and the blown 911's into two separate model lines, ie. No 997 turbo. [For the record he also said that he heard that there was not going to be a 997 C4 or cab and I noticed that the 997 cab is already listed on the Porsche web site, so I am unsure how much I would listen.] Has anyone else heard this?

This would leave only the “mid-level” (used very loosly) 911’s (997S, C42, and GT3).

So am I truly off the wall here, or does this have some semblance of sense? Thoughts?

People of your age can make that comment . . . . in 15 years my track car will have 1 seat, 2 large wheels, 2 very small wheels and leg braces. Oh yea . . . . and handles so Doug can push me to the events.

Doug, you'd better be in good shape. Marc will still expect decent lap times in Red run group. Push, dammit, PUSH!

In 10 or 15 years you’ll be right around my age

You need to start taking better care of yourself NOW

In 10 or so years I intend to have 10 or so more years of track experience

Hopefully it's Porsche's way of getting back into bare, raw, sportscars. When the "rs" or "cs" version comes out, this will be THE car.

if that's too pricey, you can always strip some weight and I'm sure a 996 or 997 motor will drop right in there, just like RUF is doing w/ the boxsters now.
