Default Open lift day reminder thread...

Just a reminder that this Sat., Dec. 4th is my buddy's open lift day in Potomac. So far only one person has pm'ed me about wanting some lift time for an oil change. So we may just all stand around bs'ing, which is fine too. But please let me know if you need some lift time. I think I'll be installing turbo tie rods.

When: 9:00-2:00pm, Dec. 4th

Where: 11025 Stanmore Dr., Potomac, MD

What: Donuts, coffee in the morning, pizza, wine, beer in the afternoon, car chat and work in between.

Some tools are available there, but you'd be wise to bring whatever you need. If anyone from Manassas is coming and would be so kind as to make a stop at OG, I really need a jug of Swepco 201 and would be very grateful. Also, if anyone coming has a pickle fork for removing tie rod ends, would you please bring it? Thanks. Below is previous thread on this.

Mr. Oil Change would be me...

While at it, I could use some Swepco 201 as well for a trany fluid change.
Rick, if nobody bites on picking some up in Manassas - I'd consider making a run out to OG tom..

I'll bring a pickle fork. Need anything else? I'll try to be there at 9. Might need the lift to check on a suspected power-steering fluid leak. I'm hoping it's something simple, like a loose connection but suspect not.

Hey Richard, do you have a spanner wrench? I've done tie rods on a 993, but never installed turbo tie rods on an older 911. I hear the old ones require some sort of spanner wrench to get the nut loose from the rack.

Looks like you may have a rack rebuild in your future. I think it's $400 at Auto Zone for a rebuild unit plus your core.

I don't really need to do any work on my car, but I defanitely want to come by and drool over your buddy's car collection.

Getting the OEM tie rods off doesn't require a special wrench. I just used the tie rod itself for leverage and unscrewed it (now I had my whole stering rack out of the car at the time, so doing it in car might be different). You do need a thin 32mm wrench to put the turbo tie rods in, though. I have Charlie's that I could bring over if you need.

You Richard - while you're in there - this might be a good time to drop the steering rack and regrease it.

Rick, I have an oil line that I would like to replace, it's the one that goes to the thermostat. I'll bring it just in case there is time on the lift.

May the force be with you. From my experience it's 50/50 that you will strip the thermostat. Start spraying the PB Blaster now.
