Default December Engine Drop

Hey guys,
Inspired by Jim's easy 2.2 drop the other day. I thought I would offer up a bigger challenge. Let's do my CIS SC. Naturally that means getting the car up higher than that low flying MFI.

I will (obviously) need some help with this, and have a couple of possible days. December 11 and December 18. That will give me Friday night to dump oil and procure supplies and tools (if I need anything in a hurry).

I plan to leave the engine out for a couple of weeks (till you all can come back ) to change the oil pressure switch. While I'm in there I'm planning on adjusting the valves and looking over anything else that might need attention while it's out using this great list: ( http://www.dorkiphus.com/porsche/vie...ighlight=while )

Lots of cleaning No teardowns are planned.

What I have:
Usual set of hand tools
Wire cutters for pesky harnesses.
1 jack and stands.
Some wood (I can get more)
A rolling furniture dolly (no teardown, so do I need an engine stand?)

What else do I need??? Some specialty wrenches for the oil lines? Another jack or two. I know there's something else.

What's in it for you? I know it's a far drive (near Nissan Pavilion - if you made it to the fun run start point, it's closer than that) but there are some plusses:
- Fun time with the Dorki crowd
- It's close to the holidays so you can escape shopping crowds and duties like hanging lights and decorating trees.
- Barb will be baking probably all day and she is a really good cook.
- There are fun backroads, so if someone wouldn't mind my greasy butt in your right seat, we could have an impromptu fun run.

Please vote, and I will firm the whole thing up! Thanks guys.

2.2? Have you been talking to Pari?

It's a 2.4E SC-destroying beast that will grow up to be a "fire-breathing" 2.7RS. Hide your women and children. It's not gonna be safe out there.

Steve,

Since I missed Jim's party (let a thing like wife and kids stand in the way... ), will definately attend yours. I'll make it either day. Should be a good learning experience as I'm planning on doing some work on the '78 SC this winter.

Not like Jim’s overly sensitive about size or any thing Steve, if you do use the ATV/motorcycle jack take off your muffler. Engine/trans wont balance w/out interfering w/jack action. The attachment on the regular floor jack that Jim used was sweet Got to get me one HF has the “car dollies” on sale for 2 for $40 Great for storing trans & motors on. Get the 1000# engine stand, it’s a little taller & you can turn the engine w/accessories 360. Don’t forget your “while the engine is out” list. Clutch cable, sound pad, heater valves & hose, repack/reverse half shafts, gas filter & lines, tin repaint, shifter bushes, vacuum lines, etc, etc

This is Justin's adapter. Check with him to borrow it, Steve. You'll be glad you did!

Yes, I plan to do as much of this "while I'm in there list" as possible. My budget has been curtailed so no unnecessary upgrades. Is there any reason I couldn't sit the motor on the dolly I have to do valve adjustments and other stuff? My goal is to park both cars in the garage when I'm not working on the engine, I'm am worried the engine stand will take up too much room.

The exhaust valves might be hard to access comfortably with the engine sitting on a dolly.

I made a little stand out of 2x10's to hold the engine while it was out. I couldnt turn the motor around, but could get to everything I needed to pretty easily. Using the jack plate is a big plus!

Easier than in the car is what I'm looking for. I stil have A/C and am not allowed to remove it.

What's this I see?

Count me in for either day. I'm still looking for that dorki "Engine Drop" experience. I have both 2- and 3-ton jacks, two sets of jack stands, numerous tools.
