Was it from OG? I'd bet they have something in stock that would fit, for purchase.

If you have the guts to you are welcome to use mine if the timing is OK. I do not know what my students run group is yet. I run in black.

I ended up buying this from OG once I found out no more rentals were available. They gave me a $35 credit towards my new helmet since I rented a helmet from them last May.

I think it'll be a good compromise between full and open face.

Total cost including shipping $215

I will be there in Fri. We will need to see if I have a Green or Blue student. If I have a Green student then there is a problem as my head will be in the helmet during your run groups. I bet we can scrounge up a helmet or I can swap students with someone.

If you are really in a bind, you can get a cheap one at a motorcycle dealership. They usually stock a bunch of different helmets. It might not be in white but some of the lower-end helmets (HJC) come in solid colors. It's not fireproof, but they all do have the latest sfi ratings. I've seen them as low as $70-$80. Could always use it as a backup.

Potomac Region does not allow M rated helmets, Zone 2 may not allow them either. If you buy an M helmet for friday know that you'll need a different one for other events which sounds expensive.

I won't go into the "if you have an $80 head, buy an $80 helmet" routine. There are others out there that are much more verballly persuasive about this.

Re: $80 head/helmet

Has there been any independent evidence that higher-priced helmets protect any better than lower-priced ones? Are there different government testing requirements for the more expensive helmets?

Until I see actual data supporting the idea that more expensive helmets are safer, the spend-more line of thinking doesn't fly with me.

More expensive helmets tend to be more comfortable, and lighter, but that's it. I don't see any evidence of any safety differences.

Considering that Snell approved helmets MUST meet the same standard, one should be able to rest assured that they will work (protect) comparably. The only other issue would be whether the more expensive helmets add anything towards safety beyond the base requirement. And until a manufacturer can prove the point, there isn't much reason to spend more money on an otherwise 'equal' helmet. (Personal preferences and non-safety related features notwithstanding, of course)

I don't believe there is a difference in "crashability" of a motorcycle helmet vs. car helmet. Porsches do tend to be on fire more often than motorcycles, so if the organizers flat out prohibit bike helmets b/c of fireproofing issues, that's a separate thing.

edit: I would like to add that the bike helmet suggestion I provided was meant to be a one-time "band aid" (emergency) remedy. If you're going to the track fairly regularly, then you should go w/ something that makes you feel secure, w/ in the club's regs, and most importantly that you take the time to find a good fit.
