Folks,
I have a 1986 944 turbo that has kept me entertained, frustrated, passionate, disgusted, hopeful and more than a bit nutty. I have learned A LOT in my two years of ownership, unfortunately none of that learning included the feeling you get down in your gut when you DRIVE a Porsche. So now that I have posted a number of messages (very little response My question is: Is it a car or is it parts? The engine (in true Dorkiphus fashion) has been dropped and completely disassembled. The rear suspension has been updated, mostly new bushings, refreshed trailing arms, new parking brake hardware, new brake pads, new bearings, new shocks. The transaxle has been removed but no work has been done on it (non LSD). The engine is completely disassembled and ready for machining. The internals are in wonderful condition (my only pleasant surprice with this car). I was going to take the a place in I think Arlington (above old Don Beyer Volvo?) to get an expert opinion on if the cylinders needed to be rehoned and have it done if needed. A rebuilt turbocharger and the turbo that was on the car (It may need new seals but the oil blow may have been caused by worn rings. The front has new bushings, one rebuilt hub, new bearings new pads, new strut inserts and is also completely disassembled. The tires are brand new Yokohama ES100's that have never been turned on the road. There is a power steering bushing kit and a tie rod end rebuild kit (although the rods look great) and a trunkful of other odds and ends. I have been bitten by the 911 bug and I need advice on my current "car". Is it a car or is it parts? Thanks, Pete

Sorry to hear you are moving on, but arent you really moving up?
With that said, you shoyuld be able to get the car back on the road with a used motor pretty quickly. Sure, that means spending more money now, but at least you could drive it. Good luck!
