I recall these ideas popping up from time to time over the years on Dorki. My understanding is techshop closed all locations a couple of years ago. From what I can see, the idea at Damascus Motors never took off. I don't know of any other attempts, are there others out there?

I've got a client coming in tomorrow that is starting up something similar. My sense is these ideas don't seem to work. He's probably shooting for a bit more high-end wash'n'shine and car show types compared to what dorki [was] is.

Anyone seen any success stories with similar ideas?

My understanding is insurance costs/ availability killed some of these ideas/ operations. I know that shut down Sports Car Shop's club concept a few years back.

Holder is the only one I know who has made a for-profit storage space work, and he went through quite a lot to get approvals, etc. And his place is more storage than DIY, and it is not a hang-out club.

Some Dorkis have banded together and rented some warehouse space for their own small DIY operation, but it is not a business.
