Default r888 on front nt01 on back

hey all

the nt01s on front are spent

i have some r888 with only four track days on them i was going to put on the front

should i replace the nt01s on the rear with r888s as well?

this is on a cayman

Aren't they a very similar compound or is that RA-1s and the NT01? If the compound is very similar, you could have them all shaved to show very little tread and it might work. Scott is a hero of mine, but I'd ask Paul on this one.

I did this a few years back in the Targa (was RA1s and 888s, so essentially same as you are proposing), and it really impacted the handling of the car. The two tires had different handling and grip.

Since when?

My understanding is that 888s are totally different. Hence why heavy cars like them and the light cars don't. The RA-1 and NT-01 are the same thing from different factories in Japan.

VaS is correct form my understanding of things.

It goes beyond just the compound though -- tread block patter/ shape and sidewall construction also influence the behavior.
