I signed up for the First Settlers VIR weekend Sept 19-21. Would be curious to know more about the New Jersey tracks for future reference.

I'd pick a track you want to drive first, then check the regions that run there. Each region has its own flare and way of doing things. Some are very rigid and organized and others have a laid back feel.

If you want to maximize track time at the sake of some less deep Porsche aware instructors, I've always found CHIN events well run and laid back. 3 run groups - essentially Green/Blue, White, and "red/black". Some instructed.. some soloed.

Not sure if you're soloed yet, but once you are, other doors open for more open track time events with a whole host of cars and/or pro coaching/instructing

As for PCA, outside of PCAP, I've only run with clubs in the northeast: NNJR, Metro NY, CVR, Schattenbaum, and NER/NCR. All were fun but all a little different too.

Where do you want to drive next? Maybe tie in a track event with a vacation destination?

BMW CCA NCC is an option now that you are not droving a convertible. The main difference is the skidpad is required and one session out of four a day is dedicated to exercises including: no brakes and off line. Another difference is you can get a ride in the instructor group so you can experience passing in corners and other hi-jinx. The other difference is that sign-offs to run solo are as rare as hens' teeth.

point taken bman!

i think it was mostly my expectations of how things worked and the way they actually did

in other words, several missteps, mostly because i did not do my homework!

and in future, i will

pca potomac, and their hpde program has just got me spoiled

i do hope to be back at mid ohio next year - can i sign up now so i am not wait listed?

if i go to motorsports reg and look at all driving school listings for 240 miles from my location, let say, can i try to get in any of those?
