Default Compression and leakdown test needed

Advise needed,
I wanted to see if someone would like to give me a hand on a leak down and compression test. I know I have a cylinder head leak I just want to see if I need to rebuild now or how bad it is. I am new to this but am very handy and do not mind getting my hands dirty. I do not have a compression tester or a leak down tool. So these would be needed
If anyone has done this and knows what to look for please help me out. I do not want to damage the motor .
Specs:
3.2 euro motor
1985
911
AC delete
heater back date
SSI's

Thank You
Len

Do you think the leak is due to a broken head stud? I could help you out this coming Sunday, Monday or Tuesday afternoon. Where in Baltimore are you?

Len, it is pretty easy to do this...I would start with the compression test (don't need an air compressor)...then decide on doing the leakdown if needed...based on the results of your compression...follow the steps in this article...have done it a few times and works just fine...

Len, don't set your expectations too high based solely on their postings....

Intubator, I'm in Bowley's Quarters , Essex, Middle River Area.. I am just past Bengies Drive In, And Martin State Airport
I have an air compressor if needed, Also I will have to check with my father in-law about a compression tester. I will be home later Sunday my son has a lacrosse game at 1:00 in Westminster. Should be home after 4-5
As for a broken head stud I have not removed the valve cover I wasn't sure if I could reuse the gasket.
I would appreciate your helping hand, Call me and let me know when would be best for you, Do you have a leak down tester?
Thank You

Hey Len, I have a compression tester only. I think we can do it in about an hour, and Sunday at 5pm is fine for me. If there is a low cylinder then you can look further into it regarding the causes. My 87 had a broken #3 exhaust side head stud at one point that was only apparent under moderate to full throttle. Sounded like an exhaust stud/port leak, only it was leaking between the head and cylinder. Have you been under the car to see if your exhaust studs are firm and intact??.. Hopefully its that simple..

I might be inclined to skip the compression test if I know I have a leak. The compression test will recheck a checked box. The leak down will tell what, where and how much.

When I removed the fan housing I noticed there was some oil build up where the cylinder and heads meet. I can hear a leak when I am driving down the road against a concrete barrier wall. I can hear it bouncing off the wall... I forgot I have a leak tester here at work for gear boxes but will need to get an adapter to screw into the sparkplug hole. Right now it has quick disconnects on each end..
