Default WTT my 944 turbo for DD

I'm not really a Porsche guy. I just bought a 951 in July 2013 because I liked the way it looked and the way it drove. I bought it for $5500 knowing it would need some attention.
The plan was to take it to the track but in mid-project things changed on my end but I still completed most of what I set out to do with it. I want to see if it can go to a new home. I'd like to list it here first since I prefer a local transaction but given that a price has to be set and stuck to in the posting, I figured I'd get some opinions in this forum first as suggested in the FS/WTB forum.

I kept a log of most things (below). I haven't included minor things, oil changes, etc. This is not a garage queen or a show car, there are imperfections in the paint, etc but no dings or dents. I can take and post more pictures if this generates interest. Passed VA state inspection April 2015, no rust, spare keys, upgraded turbo, etc. The only thing not yet completed is connecting the vacuum lines to the boost solenoid on the Vitesse system in order to control boost per user specified settings. Right now I just have a coupling connector on there so I don't get more than 10 lbs boost since I'm not tracking it anyway. Here's the log, prior to 7/13 it was maintained by SSI in MD:

Car looks very clean. Looks like you've put quite a bit of work into it; sorry you're feeling the need to sell. Thanks for keeping such a record.

Questions:

  1. can you provide specs for the suspension?
  2. Can you elaborate on the total package you're running from Vitesse? Sounds like you're also running his MAP.
  3. What wastegate and exhaust?
  4. Timing belt, water pump, and rollers -- only reference to outright replacement I can find is in the "2007-2013" section.
  5. What was involved in the clutch kit ("2007-2013" section)? Once you're able to run more than 10 lbs of boost, the stock clutch + pressure plate will not be sufficient for a Vitesse Stage III, unfortunately.

Embarrassingly I'm not sure my answers will be all that helpful as I don't know these cars as well as most of the dorkis and rennlisters but I'll try:

Suspension:
If I didn't address the area specifically (e.g. suspension) then I never changed it so I'd assume it's stock.

Vitesse:
Anything listed under 7/2013-12/2013 was done by Syracuse Porsche. The guy Donald said it's ok if people call him about the car. PM me and I'll give you his #.
To my knowledge, the chip is now a Vitesse chip, the injectors were changed to I believe 80 lb, the Turbo was changed from a stock 1" pipe to a 2.6" pipe, and then all the electronics that go with it.

Wastegate and Exhaust
The exhaust I'm pretty sure is stock 2.5", the wastegate I assume is stock as well.

Timing belt, water pump, and rollers:
Timing belt was done on 3/1/14 by RPM
If the water pump and rollers weren't listed then they haven't been done in a while but I drive the car 2-3 days/week to work in DC and traffic is horrendous and it doesn't overheat.
Anything listed under 2007-2013 was done by SSI and transcribed by me from the paper invoices. There was a ton of work done but I only transcribed the more notable items.

While at Syracuse Porsche (2013) it got a new set of tires and since then I'd put less than 1500 miles on it since I'd been driving it to work a couple times per week and once on the weekends on the highway to get it up to speed and up to rpms, basically for maintenance purposes as much as enjoyment.

It recently (this month) got a full inspection by RPM and mechanically it's solid. I'm sure Kevin wouldn't mind if you called him about the car.

If there's any actual interest on this board, pls PM me, otherwise it'll put it on Craigslist in the upcoming days.

Thanks for the information -- while I'm not interested in the car myself (one 951 is enough of a headache...), these are the types of questions you should expect.

I would probably list the car for $10k but be prepared to take less for it. Given that it's track-focused (but without a track suspension/brakes), and yellow, it's more of a niche market car.

That said, the car is solid and you have done a good job of staying up to date on maintenance and records-keeping -- and that's worth something.

Also -- what are the wheels? If they're Fikse's, let me know....

Up front, I'm not in the market. Your car is a prime track car save for the unfortunate fact that it has stock suspension. So, to reiterate what Collin said, you've got a niche car; track car guys want upgraded suspension and street car folks want clean interior, along with what everyone wants, reliability. I think the custom work on the hood and front fascia also shrinks your potential buyers market. In your favor, however, is that 951s seem to be in shorter supply than say a couple years ago and prices are a little higher. I'd ask $9k but would realistically take $7k, or perhaps slightly less. Depends how motivated you are to sell.

The front end makes my eyes water. Does it pass state with what look like fixed position headlights? As said stock susp and non stock rest is inverse of what a track guy wants. Might not to toss it out there with a price on it and lower the price every now and then until it sells.

Also try selling it on non Porsche forums / sites.

Saw you this morning on Columbia Pike near the Pentagon. Car looks good in person! The front end kit could pass for factory for anyone who doesn't know better.

The fact you saw it auto-vouches for the fact that it can sit in traffic as a dd since traffic was horrendous yesterday
If suspension is the only thing holding it back from being sold as a track car i can do that (I've done suspension work on a 2001 vw i cant imagine it being that much more difficult on an 86 951).
But i think based on the $7-9k range it isn't worth it (id be embarrassed to reveal how much I've put into this)
Based on those dismal figures the best thing to do is eventually give it to someone who deserves and appreciates it

Good luck

You can spend 2k on suspension and still get ~7-9k for the car.
