All,
Anyone on the board messed with a climate control blower on a 996? The blower motor is up under the passenger dash(?) Mine's growling in the '99 cab, and wondered if it's a DIY repair without a workshop manual. Keith

Keith,
I haven't worked on one but I do have a set of 996 workshop manuals and a copy of PET if you want to come by and do some research. Karl |

Thanks fro the offer. Sorry for the delayed response, I've been out of town in Blacksburg, VA. I appreciate the offer. I was able to fix it myself, ended up being pretty simple. Some of the foam from inside the vent channel had come loose and fallen down inside the blower itself. Removed the kickplate on the passenger side, and then pulled out the blower and the intruder. Everything's fine now. Repaired my own 996, woohoo! Engine drop next - JUST KIDDING! If I can ask, where did you get the tech books and PET? Was it expensive? Keith

Keith,
Glad to hear the problem is fixed. Sounds like you must have been visiting my alma mater and newest member of the ACC (are we gonna get killed in basketball or what?). Shop manuals are available from MY Porsche at http://www.my-porsche.com/technical/tech2.htm About $480 for the complete set but then you have to pay for supplements to keep them current. That probably runs another $100/ year or so. The PET CDs come up on e-bay every once in a while. Just make sure you get one that is current for your model year. Karl |

Yeah, I was down at VT for a few days for my daughter's orientation. She's starting the engineering school (mechanical) there in the fall. I-81 is a helluva ride, I worry about her with all those trucks. What did you study? Keith

Keith,
I bought them as a DIY assist and to also double-check things that were done by the dealer or repair shops to make sure they made sense to me. I'm happen to provide access to my set any time you need them, if you want to try them out before purchasing. I was a EE major at VA Tech many moons ago. Karl |

Karl,
Thanks for the offer, I may take you up on that sometime. I was able to find some electronic part diagrams online, but they were pretty tough to read. I was amazed how easy it was to pop the blower out in that thing. Total plug and play.... Never got my degree, but have been managing Programmers, ME's & EE's all my life. Kinda makes me sound like Dilbert's boss doesn't it? Keith

The wiring diagrams in the workshop manuals are fairly large. The pages are A4 in size of course, and the wiring diagrams fold out, so they are 2x A4. This makes them hard to scan or fax without reduction and loss of resolution, unless you have access to some professional graphics equipment.
Nevertheless, if there are some specific diagrams you need let me know. I can fax them to you in two pages or possibly scan them into a PDF (never tried it). My degree is in EE but I've been doing software my whole business life. Karl |
