Two videos of a single lap of Summit Point shot during the last run on Monday. The difference is the format.
This one is ~29M, MPEG playable by just about anything. http://demoware.adrenaline.com/engli...mit-point2.mpg This one is ~56M, MPEG2 playable only if you have a codec. This is DVD video quality, 720x480. I downloaded the decoder from http://www.elecard.com/download and used the latest Windows Media Player. What's cool is WMP will zoom to 200%, which is full screen for most folks. http://demoware.adrenaline.com/engli...mmit-point.mpg Next, I need a HDTV hung in the garage so I can sit in the car to watch!

Thanks for that clip . . . now I can relive the day and learn from the master (and I am serious about that) all at the same time.
Greg was doing exactly what my poor instructor was trying to get me to do for two days

Greg~
The video looks great, and makes me want to get my car on the track even more now What kind of camcorder did you use to take that video? I have been in the market for one for a while. ~Eric

Thanks Marc
Eric, the camcorder is a Sony TRV38. Fun, feature full and a price to go with it. Went with the Sony primarily for its I/O capabilities and resolution. I spent the weekend playing with various mic setups. The last session I used the built-in mic with a piece of racer's tape across the pickup with hopes that would deaden some wind noise.

I posted some video from a few years ago of a couple laps at Summit Point. I took a radio shack mic, wrapped it in a small towel and zip-tied the whole assembly to my seat rail around the transmission. The towel kept wind noise at bay, although you can definitely hear the transmission linkeage rattle a bit.
http://wopr.hampshire.edu/~jpinkert/SummitDay2.rm (15.7MB - Realmedia - 7:09) My camera shakes quite a bit. It has optical image stabilization, which doesn't do well in hi-vibration environments due to the image stabilization 'lens' rattling (whether turned on or disabled). Things are worse now that I have the camera mounted on the roll cage (used to have a harness bar only). This was at my first DE event, so pardon the mistakes. Also, I eased off on the main straight to let my engine cool some. I've since added a fender mount oil cooler. - Josh |
