Default With a heavy heart...

It is with a heavy heart that I pass along this Facebook message from Past Potomac Chief Instructor Dirk Dekker on the untimely passing of his son Jan:

"This is a truly terrible time, received news from Patricia my son's mother that he had been in a bad accident and did not make it. Have had many messages from his friends and Connie and my friends and his sister Carla's friends. It is one of those nightmares that all parents probably have, but one does not wake up from. Right now we don't know exactly what happened, police don't think there was an impact with another car at the moment so we are all very much waiting to hear more. Jan was an excelent driver, had driven Porsches on many race tracks Watkins Glen, Mid Ohio, VIR and Summit Point, all his instructors and fellow drivers were impressed with him, both as a person and driver. Please forgive us if we don't get around to replying to all, we know all who care and send messages. Will try and find more as the day goes on. If there are any witnesses please come forward."

The investigation is still ongoing, but the seemingly one car accident occurred at a notoriously bad intersection here on the Shore as Jan was traveling home from work yesterday.

Words fail me.

Too sad for words. Hoping Dirk finds strength and eventually peace.

Prayers and tears for Dirk and his family. As one who knew and drove with Jan many times over the years I can truly say what a fine young man and good driver he was.

Just not the way life is supposed to be…

A great loss. Prayers and condolences for Dirk and his family.

It is at times like this that we appreciate what a wonderful group of people we have around us, and just lucky we are to be with them for this brief time.
