Default SW Performance Chip

My 3.2 current setup is totally stock. I'm going to get a SW chip soon, but I'm debating which one to get. I would like to get one for a premuff with plans to install the premuff at a later date or maybe not at all. My question is will this setup (chip for premuff without premuff installed) have an equal, better or less performance vs. a SW chip for a stock configuration? I like to have the option of being able to add the premuff at a later date without havimg to buy a new chip, but would like to know how the performance will match up with a SW chip for a stock configuration?

Steve Wong (SW) makes great replacement chips. Better to wait till you decide on final configuration before dropping the $$$ on a (any) chip. Local tuner can upgrade your existing chip on a dyno to better maximize your setup. Ask DrK and others about that. Costs a lttle more but better than over counter IMO.

BTW car MUST be in really good tune for either to work.

If you wnat to just spend money have your car tuned by an Inde and see how much differents that makes.

I know I can take it to Behe Performance in Beltsville, but for a stock configuration do you think he can give me that much more performance vs. his cost, which is about double the cost of a Wong chip?

+2 on Trak Ratt's advice.

I run an SW chip for a euro pre-muffler, stock muffler (1 in, 1 out) and 93 octane fuel. The car runs very strong and dyno pulls verify the incresed engine output. Depending on how available 93 octane fuel in in your area, you may want to opt for his 91 octane chip to avoid pre-ignition issues.

Steve makes very good chips and his customer service is "world-class".

Yes, in fact Steve uses a dyno for some of his customers too. If you look at his web page you can see the charts. Don't remember anything from his site that says they weren't maxed out on the dyno. Otherwise it's just a chip with closer performance parameters than the factory cares to gamble on and Steve's historical knowledge. Your dollars, your choice. But double in this case is still small $$$ for return.

IMO 2.7 (post ’74), 3.0 (SC) and 3.2 (Carrera) engines biggest single benefit comes from improving the exhaust.

Exhaust = 15HP to 25HP cost ~$1500 $2500 (reduced by bying used and shopping.
Most chips = ~7HP to 12HP w/stock exhaust cost $400 - $500 (also can be reduced by bying used and shopping).

David,
Don't chip your car yet. Learn to drive it as it is, later decide exactly what configuration changes you're going to make, and do it all at once. Amazing how much faster the car gets when you learn to drive it better...

I spoke to Steve Wong and he said the exact same thing. I guess I'm just impatience.

What about just getting a pre-muff and a sport exhaust for now?

If you track it, listen to Dr. K. If you only drive on the street, get a chip and enjoy.

Get your exhaust sorted first. Then buy the chip to match. As someone who has BTDT, the exhaust changes made the most difference in power. The chip made it more "driveable".
