Default Investors thread ( please no politics )

I was just wondering what Dorkis were doing these day with this so called fiscal cliff looming. Are we buying Gold ? Staying the course with Stocks and mutual funds ? Bonds ?

Spoke to my guy at ML and he is suggesting staying on the sidelines for a while or getting into Gold and Silver.

I guess you have nothing better to do today than count your money. Don't you have videos of your glories to keep you occupied?

For most people who work for their money and have their money in 401(K)s, investment options are limited and buying gold at $1700+/oz is not an option. If a crash/depression occurs, soup kitchen is the only viable option for most. At this point, I don't even have a job to request my wages be paid in gold.

Seems like the stock market has pulled back a bit. I'm buying a couple select stocks right now. Sure, they may wind up going down more, but the market is fairly beat-up right now.

Stock in gun makers. Demand for their products is soaring out of fear bans are on the horizon.

Volatile market = lots of upside for day trades and swing trades in stocks with high Beta values. I've been having a lot of fun with Ford (F) in recent months. This post-election market drop was predicted by many, so no surprise there. I'm not clever enough to foresee big long term trends, so I don't do the buy 'n hold thing.

Sure it is. There are gold funds like spyders. Just as w/ mutual funds you don't buy a whole share of every stock included or a whole oz of gold/silver.

I would be careful buying Gold and Silver right now - there has been a huge price run up in the last 4 years, and in my opinion that means (in market parlance) that the "risk is priced in"
