My wifey will be attending, in my daily driver as we are still getting her up to speed driving a manual.
How much lapping will they do in the afternoon? Just trying to gauge what kind of wear I'll have to my tires. Anyone here instructing?

Kind of hard to guage wear on tires without knowing how hard she'll drive. Biggest tire killer for most novices would be skid pad, but S.P. has a wet skid pad, so no problem there.

Tires should be fine. Afternoon will be 2 - 3 20+/- minute sessions. Another session will be instructor taking student for ride, usually in instructor's car, but sometimes in student's car.
Skidpad will be fine on the tires, due to wetting down and John mentioned. Brakes may take a beating during the braking exercise. Don't want to be too low on the pads. Also, if not difficult, consider disconnecting the wear sensor wires. Student will be pushed to ABS activation repeatedly, and heat can build up. Seen one student whose car cooked the insulation on the wear sensor wires up front. Of course if car is non-ABS, flat spotting tires could be an issue.

Did you say what kind of car the DD is?
I'll be there instructing. Look forward to meeting your wife and all the other newbies, too.

She has done a couple track days in the past but it has been years (pre-kiddos). Might as well get this HPDC out of the way so she can run with PCA once she is up to speed on manual. Thanks for the feedback guys......I just wasn't sure how many lapping sessions they do.

My wife did the HPDC a few years ago and had a blast. Tire wear wasn't even a thought in my mind for a day on street tires. Now flat spotting would be a different story.

Been dong this a while and have yet to see an HPDC participant lock up the wheels enough to flat spot! There's only one excersie where it really is an issue. But most at the first sign of lock up simply release the brakes. Plus ABS helps newer cars.

car will be fine. new drivers are slow drivers, easy on brakes and tires. As long as they don't hit a wall.

I've seen cars with painters tape on them at Summit Point, presumably to protect from rock chips at the track. Is this something you veterans would recommend for HPDC? Thanks in advance.

track density isn't anywhere near as high as DEs. Still covering head lights and parling/fogs would be prudent. Early morning check + doing this at track = much lower fun facter.
