Default ethanol in gas

A friend coming up I81 yesterday saw a sign advertising "Pure Gas - No ethanol".
Is there a Fed. requirement for a min. % of ethanol in gas ? Don't think there is any "pure" gas left in Winchester for my 912.

Not a requirement. Here are two websites to find stations with ethanol-free gas.

Not legal even if a stations wanted to and I am sure some want to. Rules are not the same as in rural areas.

EPA I believe mandates fuels to use Ethanol. Since MTBE was phased out and a healthy corn lobby existis, voila, Ethanol now becomes the "oxygenate" of choice to make gas burn cleaner and better for everyone. X2 on "rural" areas allowed their own rules, hence the "pure gas" signs.

FWIW, the gas station at Lansdowne just east of Leesburg on Rt. 7 has pumps with no ethanol signage on them. I think they're required to have the signage if they contain ethanol, so perhaps this is an unreported one?

Have one here in Easton mid grade non ethanol, something like $4.50 a gal compared to $3.63 for regular.
Really ridiculous using a lot of petroleum product (diesel, fertilisers, pesticides) to produce a less efficient subsidised product.!!!!
