Default Spare air or no

Excellence mag has a 'good' article on the spare brick we carry around. Conclusion, if you ever need it you can forget it doing any good for you.

I have a question. Has anybody ever used the spare tire and did it hold air?

Were you able to deflate it for future use?

The article said you couldn't replace it cause they don't make it anymore.

How many have pitched the thing in favor of more trunk space?

Chomp chomp

ARF

ps. The word 'good' is used in the context of two pages, pictures, some data, no conclusion.

I've used them several times on non P-cars. Worked well though most pumps take a long time to fill. Just let the air out and they go right back like they were. Have several "extra" ones out back for p-cars When possible I've always replaced with full size tyre.

I took one look at mine and laughed. I think it is in the car because there is no room anywhere else.

Never had to use the spare on any of my pcars, but would have expected them to work without issue.

Hell yeah I'll keep mine! Can't find the post right now, but someone here gave me some sage advice the night this happened one Saturday night while I was out of state on vacation.

Ken, he was talking about the space saver collapsible spare. And yes, I've used mine once ~10 yrs ago and it went back to the right shape after.

Really? Sorry, I am not enlightened. Link to a pic or the article maybe would help. I've never had a space saver collapsible spare.

When I stopped to help the guy on I-270 coming home from Summit Point, we used his collapsable space saving spare. Blew up very quickly (using my portable air tank). Of course, he had a 996TT, so his spare was 5 years old, not 25 years old like mine...

Soooo. We, some of us, me specifically:

1: Don't know if the spare will hold air.
2: Not sure if the pump will work or not.
3: Not sure we have a working jack. (I added that for a comfort question.)

Conclusion.

a: Add towing to my car insurance policy. (I already have it and used it but not for a flat.)
b: Check the pump today on something more substantial than a bicycle tire. And, if bad go to Harbor Fright and buy one of their $15.00 pumps.
c: Forget about it and go do the leaves.
