Default Watkins Glen Cancellation

I regret that we will be cancelling our Watkins Glen (WG) DE this year. This was a tough decision on the part of the DE committee; however, it is a fairly long trek for most of our members.

Track management notified us that they will be making repairs for the IRL race and the track surface will need time to cure. The effect of these repairs is that WG will cone off the front straight with cones and tire packs starting at the walk-over bridge near the beginning of the front straight to the apex of T1. This will reduce the track to one lane for almost all of the front straight through the apex of T1. Other factors, there is no passing between T10 and T11. This means for all but the instructor groups, there will effectively be only one lane traffic between T10 and the top of the climbing esses.

WG assured us that this will not affect our date for next year and we still will have the weekend before July 4 and if IRL moves, we have first option on July 4 if there is no professional race.

I wasn't attending but it was high on my list of events to try and make. Fingers crossed for next year.

Default Watkins Glen Cancellation

We sent an email to all those who were registered or waitlisted for the event notifying them of the cancellation. We have not billed anyone so don't worry about any charges for the event.

Both Doug Nickel and I talked with Watkins Glen directly and they assured us that we will have our same date next year.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but as Alan says, we didn't want our DE participants driving 5 - 7 hours for a diminshed DE experience.

Black and Red run group drivers may want to see if there is still room in the Advanced DE at the Zone 2 Club Race. Manny might know or go to the Zone 2 website.

Also wanted to add the Watkins Glen management has been totally professional and courteous in how they handled this. This is a quality track with very high quality management. We are fortunate to have a very good relationship with them.

Wow.. what a bummer. The glen is sucha fun track. Makes sense though.. Losing what, about 3/4 mile of passing area would stink even more than not going at all.

Guess the August Riesenetoter 3 day DE at the Glen is going to be extra popular this year.

I cancelled my room today. I feel bad for the B&B's and small mom/pop places. When I called The Falls to cancel she said that many people have called and cancelled. Those small businesses really depend on our groups, but given the track conditions it is the right call for sure. Bad luck for us and for them! Too bad we can't run with the IRL cars, they would pass/lap us so quickly we'd never notice.......
