After speaking with Chris, I may need to replace the air flow meter so if anyone has one they would lend me it would be greatly appreciated.

They can be tested with basic tools. That might be easer than shlepping one around.

Chris said that the only 100% check was the swap with a known good one.

Mark:
Lots to learn and read here by FR Wilkes. http://www.the944.com/ Click on air flow meter page Same one for BMW E30s and lots of other makes. Look at the internals and then see if yours has the same setup and intake air temp sensor embedded in the AFM housing. (Bosch part). If the IAT is bad on an E30 they aren't replaceable per Bentley ... though I am sure an EE could figure it out. |

Swapping with a known good part is an easy test and Mark can do that himself.

Mark, if it's the same part as the turbo AFM, I have one you can borrow.

I do know that the NA AFM is different between the 2.5's and 3.0S2's.
FWIW, this are some rebuild options for them. I had a bad one in my '84 race car. Bought a rebuilt one and sent the old core back in the same box. http://www.automotion.com/product.as...-_-P915928-_-X IIRC, the actual purchase charge was initially more than what's on the website, due to the core charge. The core charge was refunded once they received my old one sent back to them in the same box.

Tony, mine at Automotion is about $300 more and by their specs is an NA only part.

EBS sells it for over 120 less but that is still over $450. Oh boy and I will be doing a clutch soon!
