Default rear tail light: 944

I'm replacing a tail light assembly on a 91 944 and wanted to know what type of adhesive/seal I should use to mount it to the car? Thanks

Don't have one (a 944) but wouldn't be a gasket (rubber) for housing to body and another for glass to housing?

You need some strip caulk for that. If you're not familiar with that stuff, it's basically 18" (or so) pieces of gooey string that you put where you'd expect to have a gasket and then put the light in.

I'm not sure. I know I got mine at Matto's (an auto paint supply store) years ago when I did mine and I'd imagine you could get it at a similar place. I don't recall seeing it at Advance Auto but I haven't really looked for it there, either.

I think I still have some laying around if you need any but I'd have to check.

If you go to a real parts store like Fairfax Auto Parts or JK Auto Parts they will have what you want. It is made by Everco or Four Seasons and used to seal heater cases and blower housings on older American cars.

Like Brian, I got mine at Mattos Paint a couple of years ago. They had to get it from their main warehouse though. So if you decide to go to Mattos be sure and call ahead.

I believe the stuff I purchased was from 3M. The strips are about 12" long by 1/4" in diameter. I only filled the taillight groove with one strip thickness. I'm still getting water in the spare tire well (and in the taillights themselves). When I get a chance, I want to pull the taillights again and double up the caulk strip. Hopefully that will cure the leaks.
