Default 944 PS Fluid

Ok, I've checked PCA Potomac, clarks-garage, 944online, dorki, etc and still can't find a definite answer.

What PS fluid should I use to top off the reservoir in my 944?

The manual calls for dexron II which has been replaced by dexron III. Some people say to use Dexron III ATF fluid and stay clear of Power Steering Fluid. The guy at the parts store pointed out another product that them german cars sometimes use, but sold me dexron III PS fluid (even though I don't see Dexron anywhere on the label).

I don't know the difference between PS fluid, ATF fluid, or that there German stuff. To make matters worse there are products that claim to stop leaks and make the earth rotate backwards.

So tell me all knowing Dorki. WTF should I use? How badly can the PS fluid the guy sold me mess up my PS pump? Should I return the generic bottle of PS fluid and get raped by a dealer for OEM Porsche Stuttgart fluid?

I would use the transmission fluid that replaces Dextron II (e.g., Dextron III). That's what I've been using to top off my 944.

Dextron III here. I had Pentosin in there for a while but then read that it calls for Dextron.

1. ATF [not PS fluid]
2. DexII or DexIII

Bleh....save yourself the trouble. Be adventurous and just remove all that power steering crap.

Most will/should say Dextron III equivalent or compatible. I've used a couple different with no apparent problems.

Picked up some castrol domestic multi-vehicle. The guy said I didn't want the import multi-vehicle.

This shouldn't be so complicated.
