Default My alignment plan......SEARS!

Will be putting a set of Falken Azenis on cookies next month and when getting pricing at Sears ($89/tire) they mentioned $69 for an alignment. 'Hmmm' i says. $69 ain't terrible.

My plan is this:

-Install new bushings front/rear (rubber/neatrix) w/ new t-bars (size remains to be seen; if i can't score Dr. K's i may just pick up the SC set that tdat has) and SC spring plates.

-Set ride height f/r; check camber in front and SET camber in rear to max negative. Have a digital level from sears coming for this purpose.

-Use a clients corner balance scales for corner balancing

-Drive to Sears for toe setting and recording of caster/camber.

Any faults in my plan? I would demand to be right with the tech at Sears while he's doing the alignment. I'm just not sure i can do the toe thing very well with strings and such.

I'm not sure that Sears would be the best place for a proper alignment. If you're only trying to get toe-in set, I would suggest spending the money for a set of Longacre Toe Plates and do it yourself. I have a set you can borrow. Otherwise, I'd spend extra to have a proper shop, familiar with Porsches, do a 4-wheel alignment, to insure you dont' end up with a crab. However, if you get to be there with the tech, it might not be so bad.

Yes, that's them. Basically 2 plates with slots, and 2 tape measures. In all honesty, they're overpriced for what they actually are, but they are not that expensive, and are bent and slotted properly to make use easy. We used these after rebuilding my bent car at a race last year, and we were able to dial in enough toe to offset the slightly bent control arm. The car actually handled quite well, despite the fact that the wheelbase was slightly different on each side.

For simple toe-in changes, via the steering links, these work pretty well. However, it would be more involved to try and lineup all 4 wheels; that's best left to a proper shop & alingment rack. For small amount of toe validation with new tires, the plates work well.

Ok i understand now. Get the alignment done right and if you make any slight tweaks after the fact you can adjust with these.

Getting to Tyson's is a problem since i need this done before the HPDC. Outside of tax season i could certainly take a day off but before is tough. i'm guessing they don't do Saturdays. Will call 'At Speed tomorrow and see if they do this and how much it would run.

BTW, I forgot to mention that OG Racing carries them too, and if have a few other items on your shopping list to cross over $100, shipping is free and they usually deliver next day to most of the DC metro area.

For setting toe on the fronts, Sears is just fine. Porsche tie rod ends are the same as everyone elses. For anything more than that, I'd take it elsewhere.

Don't be so cheap. I wouldn't let Sears align my Prius yesterday (got new tires). Go to Porsche of Tysons (Kurt's place) for $175 and have it done right!

They will have no idea how to properly align the car.

Nor will they have any idea where to find out how.
