Friend of mine dropped off his Z4 for service at a dealership. Got a call the next morning suggesting that his right front wheel was bent/damaged and that he should order a new one. Later, he got a call telling him that someone had actually hit the car in the dealer parking lot and that the dealer was taking responsibility to get it fixed.
What would you do if this happened to you?

What's there to do? They're taking responsibility and fixing it, right? That seems like the best outcome you could hope for considering the circumstances. They could tell him to go to hell and deal with the lady's insurance.

ummm.... it seems that a bit more than the right front wheel is damaged... is the dealer blind or did they think they can get away w/ it???

I'd have someone's ass.
Then I would ask for loss of value in addition to the fix.

I would tell them to return the car to me in exactly the same condition that they received it in - which it sounds like they're planning to do. While it's mildly annoying, what is there to complain about? Lot damage happens at every dealership (although it's typically with their inventory, not customer cars).
I would ask for a loaner car though, since he'll be out of a car for a few days longer than expected.

I would request that the dealer pay to have it fixed at the shop of my choice. Unfortunately accidents do happen at shops. How the shop deals with it determines how much of a PITA it will be.

The dealer damaged our Sienna while they were looking at it for a potential trade-in a while back. No one fessed up, we just noticed the damage before we left. It was obvious it rubbed a pole in the parking garage. They fixed it and provided a free rental.
