Default Anyone here own or know someone who owns a 2007 BMW 335i?

I'm shopping for a new daily driver and I'm considering this as an option. I'd like to get some first-hand experience feedback.

I drove the wheels off one last fall, literally. The owner used the OEM lug bolts with not OEM wheels and they broke. Luckily I felt a vibration and entered the next corner conservatively.

Before the mechanical, I enjoyed the car on the Jefferson. The turbo lag is minor, but it clearly does exist. I gave it the stick about 2 car lengths before I wanted the umph to allow for the turbo lag. I was able to gobble up E46 M3s with little effort.

Oil temps are a known issue. Sport equipped cars have a factory cooler installed, and I think 2nd model year cars all have the cooler. This corrects the issue for sane street use, but I understand track use is still problematic.

The car I drove was dark gray with a red interior. It was very attractive. The owner griped about the very heavy and hard runflat tires that were standard on the car.

guy in my office has one. quick and complicated and he will never touch the engine as mainatance is free for the first 4 or 5 years...if your are considering the 335i you must also consider replacing rear tires every 10k even if you leave the traction control on.

Did I say it was quick?

I'm definitely not planning to track it, but would occasionally drive it like I stole it. I will check on the oil cooler.

I have a lady friend who just bought an '07 335i. She got the hard-top convertible model. Looks like a Transformer when it's folding up/down. Not a lot of room in the trunk. Lots of power, for street driving the turbo lag is not noticeable. Seats are very firm and supportive. Interior has this adjustable "mood lighting" on the doors - hard to describe but looks cool. I got quite a smelly stink from the brakes after barely a few minutes of spirited driving on a twisty road, dunno if it's just cheapo oem pads or what. Suspension is nice; firm yet compliant on the bumps. Seems like it would make a nice daily driver.

There was one of those hardtop converts in our surface parking lot here in Skyline yesterday aftenoon. Very easy on the eyes.

My wife just got hers a couple of months ago, 2008 sedan. She had the Dinan software upgrade installed which adds 85 HP for around $2K. The car is great, extremely fast with almost no lag and great torque. Very comfortable and somewhat practical too. We did European delivery which I highly recommend, great experience. I think all '08's come with oil coolers, can be added to previous years that didn't come with them. Again, I think the Dinan upgrade is well worth the money after driving the same car with and without it. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Is the Dinan upgrade installed by the dealer and fully supported? Not that I would need the extra HP for a daily driver, but I'm just curious. I'm looking at used vs. new, so European delivery might not be an option. :-P
