Default Son wants to buy sports car

It would be his daily driver and he's got 15k in his budget. He is leaning towards an RX8. Anyone know anything about these ? I would push him towards a Boxster if it wasn't for the repair bills. I would rather see him get a Miata before the RX8 but he doesn't like the looks as much. He also tends to think the poon factor is higher in an RX8 which is really important to a 23 year old.

Has he driven one? I understand they push like pigs and have no torque. A very good driver, Bob King, has one and uses it at the track. He is dog slow in it. He commented that it pushes way more than he expected or would like.

This may all be good in reality for a 23 YO trying to snatch some snatch though.

On the other hand, Wankels are not known for their longevity.

Is gas mileage an issue? I only know one person who has owned an RX-8, and they sold it after a year due to the poor mileage (in the teens around town, I think).

On a side note, chicks won't be impressed by a Mazda...

I understand that gas mileage really sucks for such a small car and engine. I don't see them on the track very much either which tells me something. However Miata's are all over the place at the track. ( I am so track biased )

Although they look like rice-boy cars, a used Mitsu Evo would be a nice car. The AWD is great in the winter, plus the car is pretty damned quick. Won't impress chicks though -- especially with the very firm suspension. Similar for the Subi WRX STi.

If there were a great DD sportscar for $15k that was also a chick manget, I suspect most of us on this BB would already own one

A friend has an rx8, I was surprised how much I like it. With that said, keep an eye on the oil level.

If it were me I'd pick up the best 3 series I could afford. Clear corners, rims, angels eyes... the chix will love it.
