Default Hershey Booth - A place to sell your stuff

I bought a Hershey Booth months ago with grandiose plans for a friend to sell CNC'd parts that never got CNC'd and to sell a bunch of stuff that is out of state that is still out of state. Now I'm showing up with a few boxes of odds & ends and some wheels it looks like I might sell before I even get up there. A Dorki had the great idea and initiative to ask if he could sell some seats in my booth and I thought: "what a great idea". Not only would it make better use of my booth, I might get to meet some Dorkis, and it is a small contribution to our questionable cause.

So, if you have a few items to sell, shoot me a PM so I can loosely keep track of how much stuff might be coming, and you can drop your labeled item off with me or one of my P-Car Buddies (Derek or Bob) at our booth at location G2 in Hershey. We plan to set up Friday afternoon.

I don't have a significant rain fly or much for tables etc. So if you want your stuff on a table/ under cover, that is a way you might be able to contribute.

If there is a Dorki booth somewhere (I think there was last year), I'm not trying to get your traffic, I just didn't see the post. Hope to meet some of you at Hershey.

Hank

I think I have four Dorkis who plan to bring some items to sell at my/our booth (G2). If you do not intend to stay at the booth, please ensure you clearly label your items with your price and your name. It is supposed to rain - I hope we'll have Mark W's "Easy Up" and those of you who have offered to bring tables - YES, please do so.

Hank,
I have a 10x10 canopy I'll bring up, too.

Please PM, to those planning to attend, the full name you used to reserve your space, G2. I'm not 100% certain, but I think it might be needed at the gate in order to be able to drive a vehicle into the vendor area to drop off items.

Default Not Setting Up Friday Afternoon

After some consideration of time/ distance and risk we decided not to "setup" Friday afternoon. It is supposed to Thunderstorm tonight and the booth will be unattended so I figured I would just show up before 6:30 Saturday and set up then.

A big thanks to Hank for getting the booth. It was good to see everyone and hang out for the day. Unbelievably, the weather cooperated. It was probably the best weather I've ever seen at Hershey.

Some of the cars there were amazing. The booth next to us has a fully restored Coral Red 70E for sale for more money than I had to spend. Lots of 356s and other cool stuff.

The selling part of yesterday, well, sucked. At least for me. Considering all the time to load the van and actually sit there all day, drive up (for $4/gallon), food, etc, I did NOT do very well. I had a mix of 911 and 964 stuff, and the 964 I couldn't give away. It seems the 964 crowd is not the DIY type of crowd (with a few exceptions) the old 911 crowd is. So if you ARE a 964 DIY guy, expect to see some parts soon .

Last year was MUCH better in terms of people buying. A lot more action early in the day and a lot less people wanting everything for nothing. For example, take 911 door handles. They usually sell for around $40 on eBay, Pelican. Last year you say $30 and they're gone. This year? "I'll give you $10". This being a hobby thing, I think some of it is economy related. It was clear that, as a whole, people were a lot less willing to spend on non-necessities.

Oh, well. I did end up getting a set of new front rotors for less then 40% of their retail price, so that was nice.

I agree with JazzBass, economically, all my efforts to sell were fun, but after time, travel, gas, cleaning out my car, etc, it definitely was not a $ making endeavor. I cleared about $130 and spent half of that buying stuff at my own booth from other Dorkis (!) But, it was fun and really cool to finally get acquainted with some other guys from the forum. I think Dorkis should consider hosting a booth next year, but if you want to get the most from your parts, I think I'd sell them on Ebay/ Pelican or even this forum.

Chris, did you think that there were less people up there this year? Selling as well? I was looking for the bulk oil filter guy and he wasn't there this year. Seemed smaller.

I swear some of the junk that people (bigger sellers) bring is the same junk as last year....just pitch it already! I rolled in just before 9 and I always see big stuff heading out to the parking lot early. Makes me wonder how much of the good deals/good stuff is traded amongst the people selling.

The guy behind your booth had some cool E36 M3 rims I was thinking about (not thinking hard since I only saw 3). Next time I visited, they were gone.

Nice meeting you Hank. Sorry I couldn't stay longer to visit. My co-driver was getting a little antsy.

Yep. I think there were less people selling and while the crowd of buyers seemed to be about the same, they were buying less. Some of the big guys there (CDPC, etc) had some OK deals, but in the world of internet buying and free shipping (places like OG Racing, Apex), I didn't see anything there I just had to buy right then and there.

I'm done selling at Hershey. Considering all the time involved, I'd be much better off to sell here, eBay, or Pelican and deal with shipping. If I go next year, it'll be with my son after waking up at a normal hour (got up yesterday at 4:30). Spend an hour or so looking at cars, buy a t-shirt, and head home. Maybe stop by Gettysburg on the way back because I'm a history geek and I like subject my children to stuff like that.
