Default What tires would you recommend

Looking for ideas about tires for a 87 Carrera (Michelle's car), modest in price. She is moderate driver and will do occasional DEs. Year round tire. I think Proxies are a little pricey and not good for her use. Ideas please.

RA-1s are probably no good for her, but T1-Ss (Rs?) are supposed to be nice compromise tires. Until mid-'06, I always ran Bridgestone Potenzas, which were also a good compromise tire, although they sucked if there was any snow at all on the ground. Don't know the current Potenza designations, as they changed a year or so ago.

X2 but give some serious thought to how the car will be used. Some DEs would be a limiting factor on choices

Yep - I was going to suggest the Proxes 4 but don't know how they'd like DE.

I like the Pirelli P-6s on my daily driver (Saab) so much, I put a set on my SC, and they work great in rain and are wearing a lot better than the Dunlops they replaced. The first set of P-6s on the Saab went 60,000 miles.

Hankook RS2 Z212 is my current tire of choice. I wouldn't drive with them in snow though.

Toyo T1R - have them on the 911. Very good tire for both street and occasional DE. Relatively quiet - lots of grip on dry and pretty good when wet. Good prices too.

If by "year round" you mean that she'll be on the street in the winter, then you really need to avoid the "exotic" street tires that become hockey pucks when it's below freezing. That obviously rules out R-compounds. It also rules out some of the sticker street tires that come with a freezing warning.

This is my first winter on true winter tires, and I'm surprised how much more "stick" they offer when it is very cold and/or wet, when compared to my summer tires.

I think Kumho makes some tires that would fit your needs. And I've heard that their "all season" tire actually survives some track use.
