My "new" 84 coupe is being shipped from TX and one of the things that came from the PPI is its going to need new brake pads. The shop said the fronts are at 25% and rears are at 50%. Also has new front rotors that are drilled.
Two questions: -Should I do all 4...or is having mis-matched pads not necessarily a bad thing? Are 50% pads in the rear acceptable? -Also, I did a search but couldn't find much - would really appreciate pad suggestions for the car - looking for a good street/track combo pad (more street as I will probably only do 1-2 DE's across the year) w/ little squeal. Not worried about excessive dust as much. Will have fluid flushed, get alignment, and have the 7's and 9's freshly painted and mounted. Thanks again, will post pics when it arrives.

most of us use pfc97's but they are somewhat noisy. mine squeal sporadically for a week at a time and then i don't hear them for months too. go figure.
if you absolutely cannot have that, then one of the true 'dual' compounds would be better. hawk has high perf street pad ('HPS') and pfc has z-rated street/track pads: http://www.performancefriction.com/pages/faq.htm http://www.bimmerworld.com/html/perf...brake-pads.htm |

OR just the stock Porsch pads.

For street, I'd go with the $30 Mintex from Pelican. I think most replace once the friction material is equal to (or thinner) than the backing plate. 50% sounds A-OK but 25% sounds like time to replace. You can DE on street pads if it's only 1 or 2 events per year, and if you don't mind a little fade.

Definitely. Maybe I'll take a drive out to your place and you can show me how to do a brake bleed if you're up for it...let me know.
