PLEASE DONT BUY THAT COMPRESSOR. WHAT? WHY AM I TYPING IN CAPS? WHAT? OH, THATS BECAUSE IM DEAF FROM STANDING NEXT TO ONE.

Seriously, two friends have that same (or very similar model) and it UNBELIEVABLY LOUD (and also very slow). They both regret the purchase. I wouldn't recommend an oil-less compressor to anyone who is actually going to use it. Buy the smallest oiled model they have at a minimum. FWIW, I have a craftsman pro 60gal (mine is made in USA by divilbiss) and its quite nice.

The noise comparison is:
oiled: 911 w/ a sport muffler @ idle (you have to raise your voice if you're standing right behind it)
oil-less: open headers @ 3000rpm (you have to leave the room, close the garage door, and still have to raise your voice.) No kidding.

Got one, THANKS!

Out of stock locally. Luckily, my wife is in Penna, near Willow Grove, and they have it. It's $199 but there's an additional $20 "clearance" discount so it's $190 with tax, and it includes 20 accessories (looks like one of those is an impact wrench ). She comes home tomorrow. I couldn't quite figure out what the shipping would be, but I'll bet it's more than "Thanks, honey. I love you for picking this up for me."Possibly less than "Dear, could you please drop these off at Radial tire so they can flip them on the rims, and then go back later and pick them up for me," though...

Peter

EDIT: got it while Stephen was putting in his post, but I can easily move it outside the garage, on the other side of a brick wall, if the noise is too much. I do NOT intend to be a big user - I'm way more of a neophyte than many on this board. But I do need the occasional air.

Peter, most of the accesories suck. And Stephen is right on the noise (a bit over stated though). Its reliable but try not to be near it when it goes off unless you are wearing ear protection.

I bought into the DR "Harbor Freight" philosophy - "Buy the cheap tool. If you find you use it a lot or need it by the time it breaks, spring for the good, name brand one."

I also bought into the OldTee philosophy - "just buy a Sears compressor already and stop moaning. It will be fine for how much you're going to use it.

To the person who gave me a compressor motor: do you want it back, or should I offer it to someone on this board (or should I see if it's louder than this Craftsman unit and possibly switch it if it's quiet)?

Peter

wonder how much it would cost to build walls with sound insulation around it? maybe even just a box with sound insulation? i know air circulation is important but it might be worth the effort.
