I have been trying without success to find out how many Ruby Red cabriolets were built in 1983. I would not have thought this was such a difficult task, but I am striking out everywhere. I have posted on Pelican and Rennlist. I have contacted PCNA. Someone on Rennlist said they had a letter that came with their car that the PO got from PCNA. That letter stated specifically how many Baltic Blue Targas were built in his model year. The info has to be out there somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.
Anyone have any helpful ideas? Thanks

I don't personally have one, but I wonder if that is part of the information printed on the "Certificate of Authenticity" that PCNA can provide: http://www.porsche.com/usa/accessori...fauthenticity/
It appears that the certificate costs approx $100 to obtain. Additional info available on the PDF listed on the link.

I do not think that is on there. I have spoken to a couple of people at the CoA office and they act like it is info that does not exist.

You asked on Rennlist? And those guys didn't have the answer? Then the answer simply doesn't exist. Those guys know *everything*.

Brush up on your German and email Porsche (not PCNA)

are you trying to determine whether the car is valuable b/c of the color? is ruby red a pinkish kind of metallic color? different from guards and different from darker india red?

I guess in a long term roundabout way I am Harlequin. But really, I am just curious how many were made. You do not see a lot of Ruby Red cars and it is a 1st year cab. I just want to know how many were made...
Not sure about pink, but it is a burgundy color and the hue changes with the light quite a bit... |

Well, I guess I kind of have an answer to my question now, though it is not really the one I was looking for...
Adrian Streather was nice enough to email me and clue me in a little. Basically, it comes down to this. The number of cars produced in each available color is a piece of data that is and will not be available. The reason as I now understand it is it is because it is tied to the VIN, and if the data to determine these numbers were released, it would compromise owners identities. I still admit I don't quite get it... it seems like it would not be a hard thing for Porsche to just release data on the colors, but whatever I guess. As a side note, last night while trying to research this, I came across an ad from July in the Knoxville area for a Ruby Red 1983 911 Cabriolet. The car was identical to mine in everyway. So I know there are at least 2... Ahhh, the sweet smell of progress! |

You could start your own Ruby Red 1983 911 Cab registry online and see how many people sign up. Smile. At least you would know of two members...tito
