Default Another Seat question...

I am considering replacing the driver seat in the Boxster to improve head room by allowing me to sit lower in the car. Do I need to replace the passenger seat as well to be in compliance with PCA type regulations.

At this time, I am not planning on installing harnesses. Also, as an instructor, I have but rarely the need to carry passengers.. but if I did, would this be an issue?

I know the rule is restrictive when running harnesses, but I was not sure since the belts aren't being changed, and generically, the seats are "similar", is that an issue?

And yes, I posted on the new PCAP forum too...

Thanks!

Hopefully you will get your reply on the New Potomac website from the Tech authorities, however my understanding is that seats are part of the restraint system, at least they keep you from some sideways sliding and therefore if you ever take any other instructors/students out, you need both similar, though I understand something like an EVO for driver and EVO11 for passenger is acceptable. I gather re reading that you are only thinking of a lower "street type" seat, which I would think acceptable as long as you said similar.

I guess the gray area I have is... "is the factory sport seat, as a passenger seat, using factory 3 point belts for both seats considered similar or not to a driver seat like a Sparco/Kirkey/Recaro non-reclining seat"

Personally I would say VERY grey area as the recaro etc even with the 3 pointer would hold one in a lot better than the stock seat. Not my call though. If I was instructing a student who had a race seat and I had the stock seat, I would definitely hesitate as it says equal restraints and seats are part of it. Untill next year I think it would be my call as an instructor, and I probably would tell that student he would have to find another instructor as I want my driver to protect me as much if not more than themselves!!
