Default Are extra driving lights legal around here?

My lady is making rumblings about wanting a pair of driving lights on her Mini. I see them on Minis occasionally, but can't recall seeing any on at night. They look cool by day even when not turned on. But I don't want to get them for her if she can't use them. The stock headlights aren't that great. I'm wondering if HID's would be better for her.

Where would they go? Maybe you tell fuzzy the bear that they are fog lights when he pulls you over. I think the only lights they get heartburn about are off-road, high mounted lights. All of my cars have 6+ factory mounted, forward facing lights but low below front windshield level. The new Mustang has some large optional lights in the grill like the '60's version. Ask an inspection station?

Personally I'd go with HID's....very simple upgrade and makes a huge difference in brightness without getting flashed by oncoming drivers.

I installed the 9006 kit (6000K) from http://www.neverburnout.com on our Honda Hybrid. Before and after pics below.

Be careful of other HID kits out there....you get what you pay for.

I used to live in VA and I think the rule was 6 forward facing lights max and had to be below the factory ones. Example: Seperate hi/lo beams like on old cars/bmws/etc couted as 4. Adding fogs or driving lights increase the total to 6. Anything above the factory lights had to be externally disconnected or covered. Could do anything you want if you met those rules.

Well, the Mini only has one pair of light housings, each containing high and low beams. The one below has what I'm thinking of doing, but I was unable to copy the image. I assume these driving lights are considered to be below the headlights, no?

I have factory xenons on my 330i, put 6000k HID's in the 993 and 6300k on the bike. I can't live without them. But I think the lady is more concerned with appearance than performance.

For appearance purposes, dummy lights would do, empty shells that look like lights but really aren't; you wouldn't even have to wire them up cause wiring would be superfluous. You'd never use them, but they'd look cool. It'd be like those people who can't ski but they put on a dummy knee cast and hang out in the bar so as not to miss out on the ski resort fun.

Well, I think I would put some decent lights on there, since I drive the car as much as she does and I can't stand the stock lights. I'm just wondering if they're legal to use at night on public roads.

Anything is legal, until you get caught I think you would be fine with them.
