Alright, no 44 bashing (Dave Riley), but I have a concern with my 84' 944. For the past week, when I first start the car up after sitting for 2+ hours, and go to start driving, the engine RPM drops and it feels like the car is going to die. If I let it sit and run for about 2 minutes before I drive it...then it is fine. What gives? I have not had problems in the past with start and go?!!!!

Junk in the tank, all the way up to the injectors from sitting. Wish you hadn't stopped me on the other... I had a good one and I've just been waiting for you to get home

Hmmm.... check:

- Supplementary Air Valve (aka Idle Bypass valve aka Aux Air Regulator)
- Coolant temp sensor to DME
- O2 sensor (if bad, leans out mixture & engine runs like crap)
- Fuel pump check valve (although this tends to be a hot start symptom, not cold start)

Possible but not likely:
- Speed/reference sensor clearance (0.8mm)
- DME relay

As Jazz said, could be the idle stabilizer, which only works when the engine is cold or the AC is on.

Go to Clarks-garage.com and look at the procedure for setting the idle. There are instructions for electrically bypassing the stabilizer (just need a piece of wire to jumper two connections) to test it out.

Could also be a vacuum leak but unlikely since it goes away.

LOL Dave. It is good to be back. So, is it possible it could be some bad gas? I guess I need to have a heart to heart with the machine some weekend and get all over it like white on rice. I think I need to change the timing/camsahft belt soon!!!

You can usually tell by the smell if your gas has gone bad. Lord knows it wasn't hard to tell on the stuff I took out of the '44S. Sediment in the tank is another thing. The others had some real good ideas and even some techniques for testing. I'd first smell the gas then if it seems OK dive into the other possibilities. BTW don't procrastinate on the timing belt Though I do have an "extra" '44 motor out back.

Could also be a sticking AFM
