James May drives the Bugatti Veyron at 407 Km/Hr.
"At 400 kph, the tires only last 15 minutes, but the gas runs out in 12, so we're OK" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMBCw6fJfEA&NR Good grief. The car in more detail: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAprzX2O6Zs

I did about 220-240 mph in a "vertical-no-lift-dive" out of a DC-3/C-47 [N140T] "back-in-the-day".. ZephyrHills FL [Z-hills] .. stepped out at 13k+ at the back of the stack and the formation was building way-way below... so you fold most everything inboard and swoop in the vertical mode....
Pucker factor gets way up there > cause at those speeds > you can break things... cheeks are pulled past your jaws... skin is a flappin.. Close in on the formation and commence deploying speed brakes.. "swoop cords"... and slow down.... CBDR > "constant bearing decreasing range"... you make small adjustments with your fingers.... Faster than I'll ever see in my SC.... and it was only a $15.00 jump kgl USPA A-1511 D-5661 Gold Wings#2039

Oh come on. . .we all know that was Aubrey driving that thing. Nice RW description. Used to be a HALO-kinda guy in the early '70s (when I was a real man. . .). We just stood on our head to get to altitude though.

I was a HALO dude also... jumped the MC-1 system.. the "tojo-slot" ..belly wart reserve..... put my teeth through my lips on opening shock when the auto-timer caught me unaware.. highest jump was ~ 26K..... O2 mask damn near suffocated me > had to crack it so you could breath ...

I sometimes do work where the Army does their HALO school. It's really cool. You can't even see the planes they're up so high. A few minutes after they jump out, you can see the little tiny chutes in the distance.
It's also cool, because all the megabucks worth of testing goes on pause for the twice-a-day 15 minutes when they're in the air. Helos just hang out, tanks stop, artillery goes silent. Of course, as the son of an Air Force pilot, I have to ask, "what the hell are those idiots doing jumping out of WORKING airplane?!" |

Don:
I was in 7SFGA > started out in Signal Co and when I made CPT > they gave me a HALO Greenlight Team >> SFODA-711... Jumped "the device" on both a static line and HALO jump... So you got to jump a 60 huh?? bet that's a fun thing.... [who did you piss off?]

Kim:
My thoughts EXACTLY! You don't know fun until you cut a wheezy bag away and lawn dart in. I was just the biggest, dumbest guy there (and most junior, but that NEVER plays into it, does it?) and everyone else liked to laugh at me as I waddled off the ramp. Although, you do make a big target for everyone else to fly to. . .I don't jump any more. Something about arthritis in my knees and back that precludes me (and I got considerably smarter. . .) from playing. One great by-product of living in SDiego is that my arthritis rarely acts up on me! I was at Smoke Bomb Hill from 1972-1976. When were you there? |
