so..i am stuck between a 944 and puttin it under boost, or finding a 83-87 911T.

if i play my cards right..by summe ri should be able to get one of these with no hitches. i would get rid of one of my vw's, but i would like ot get the LD on what would be a sweet street sleeper and a fun roadrally/DE/semi-show car.

also..i have a grasp on what to look for in both of these cars, but any pointers and tips and such would be great. like common problems, good motor, good year( i am looking for something to MAKE fast),etc, etc.

i figure 30k can get me a damn nice 911..and that would build my 944 almsot all the way or close.

TIA

Evil, if you shop right or get a friend to get you into Manheim you can buy nice 99 996s all day on either side of 30k +/- 3k. My own car fit that bill with a factory aero kit, LSD , M030 sport suspension, 18" wheels and Sport Seats.

Basically all the stuff I cared about.

I used to mod my cars, vws and hondas back in the late 80's before it became fashionable (we used 4 barrel carbs on the 4 bangers) . Just remember a really fast vw is still just a vw. A 911 out of box is an awesome platform.

Not speaking for your skills but it may take the average person quite a few track days/autox before their skill surpasses that of the car's.

You prolly know this, but if you want a turbo-charged 944, buy one. It will cost your far more money and reliability to DIY. Bang for the buck, a 911 cannot touch a 951 in terms of performance.

hmmmmm. what is a good year for a 951 and are their serious upgrades and such for the turbo cars?

are guys who do get into bigger turbos( not huge) running standalone, or still ECU controlled mapping, etc.

hmm...

the black bunny, was originally stock 1.8 bottom end with a bertils 1.6 carbed head with dual 45 wbers. it made over 160whp. it was a track car right off the show room floor.

i loove carbs, but a modern day swap and good turbo, and correct lubrication and then fine tuning done correct can make alot of reliable power on lowboost. and i would like ot try it on something fun and very trckable, like a rwd pcar.

and yes.. a fast modded vw is a vw..and i love.. LOVE VW's. i mean..porsche was originally, jsut a vw anyway ..for the most part that is.

Vu was tellin me that he has seen and knew someone with a 99/98 996 for like 28k with 50k or less miles, and all the goodies. which would be sick..but i want a street sleeper, i like older cars, and i want to be able to use my loopholes to get away with thigns as far as getting it to pass safety and emissions, etc.

so a 951 is the better choice huh. hmm.

i assume, some of the best cars are in the PNW area or california and texas, etc?

and what is manhiem??!!

Manheim is the main auction in PA for the NE-Mid-Atlantic where dealers go to buy cars... usually high line cars and later model. So you won't find a 951 there usually but a 996,997,boxter etc as well as late model vw (with a turbo even).

Of course a P-car is just a very evolved vw. I agree that a rear drive platform of any kind is great platform to add power if that is what you are into.

The 944 turbos are very tweakable cars that can develop some increadible power if you dont' need to stay legal for a specific SCCA class. Or even if you do.

One of the rabbits that I used to play with is owned by my buddy and has evolved from autox to ITA to GT3. One fast front drive car.

The best 951s were from 1988 and 1989. For 1988, you are looking for a Turbo S. This is the upgraded model with bigger K27 turbo and updated ECU/KLR mappings. For 1989, all turbos had these upgrades.

There are SERIOUS upgrades for these cars and you can make ridiculous power with them. Just as with everything else, the only limit is your wallet.

www.lindseyracing.com - big 944 tuner. Mike Lindsey is a great guy.

that gets me excited.

if i follow correctly a porsche DE doesn't really have any restrictions for the cars does it?

and the direction i was going with my last rabbit was GT3..but now i have to start all over and i am going in a bit different dirrection with a 16v head and an 8v bottom end with boost. i did this motor build for a friend and currently he is makin a scary 341 at the wheels.

but, yeah. i want something rwd, pcar, older model, and boost. any vw with the exception of diesel and the R32, made from 99-2005 are junk.

is anyone on here driving a turbo 944 etc?

Nope. PCA Potomac's only requirement is that the car be a Porsche

Also, just to add 83-87 911 turbos are not cheep by any means. They are either expensive, or very expensive to put back right... even if DIY.... even compared to other Porsche's.
