Default What a diff.

I drove Bill P's car today (the one he bought from Harold) that thing is strong. Our cars are almost identical (compression numbers) with one exception, he has a cat by-pass pipe. I figured the hype of added power is like most advertised things, was a joke. Boy was I wrong, it added a noticable amount of umph. I have a call in to my guy at Pelican, I must have one. For once I was impressed with something delivering what it says. The added growl will be cool as well.
Has anybody else seen this light?

It does seem to make a difference! but save the $$ on the test pipe and jump into a set of SSIs. IMO biggest bank for the buck for CIS smog motors. My ’82 SC passed it’s last “emissions test” last year

I looked into that but I am a poor mechanic and the funds just arn't here at this time. Smogging isn't an issue for me, we don't sniff here and I have an inspection license anyway. Sometimes it's good to be me, just not when looking for upgrde parts.

A friend has a Z06 with all that cat by-pass X pipe stuff, and his car roars down the road. I like driving it very much.

I have a Fabspeed on my car attached to a Bursch exhaust. Nice sound when under load @ 4500 and up, outside that not really any difference noticed. I've been to the website, definitely didn't feel like the gains claimed. Maybe my expectations were set to high. Thinking when it comes time for a rebuild that I'll put on a set of SSI's w/an M&K pipe. I hear Ben does a real nice job with those and I absolutely love the sound that set up makes.

Michael,
On our Carreras, installing the bypass pipe alone is not enough - you also have to tell the DME that the pipe is there. Chipping the Motronic will definitely take advantage of the fact that you've removed the catalyst. You will notice a definite increase once you've added the chip.

SSI's are said to be slightly too constricting for the 3.2. However, many Carrera owners run them with success. They way I see it, a chip and a bypass pipe are much cheaper than SSIs and produce almost exactly the same dyno results.

I'm thinking about taking my 3.2 one step further - adding 993 HE's, test pipe, and Steve Wong chip.

Quote from Tyson Schmidt:
Quote:
SSI's only have a 35mm I.D. So the 3.2 exhaust port, which is 38mm, and opens up to 40mm for the stock HE's sleeve then has to neck down to 35mm. Talk about a nightmare for high rpm flow.

The 993HE's have a 38mm I.D. since the 3.2 and 3.6 all have the same size exhaust port size of 38mm. To address the issue of the 40mm recess, I contour the 993 HE's out to 40mm when I grind/port the inner welds away after rotating the flanges, then make the driver's side HE match the right side.
Rick - These would work on a 3.0 as well, though you'd have to change your muffler...

Test pipe ordered overnight shipping will be on Lanna by this time tomorrow. Just in time to try and get pulled over on a Friday night.
Gotta love those 25 year old cat bolts. HAHAHA I have tools of mass destruction and I used them to cut off the nuts and push the bolts out. No hammer required.
I shined my flash light in the converter after the removal and I could get no light through it. For those of you who have seen my flashlight I would call that clogged.

If you can’t go to an aftermarket muf now your eyes open for a used Carrera one. Supposed to be 10% better flow. Maybe a Dorki has one in the back of their garage
