A little slow on the take for this one...

So what did it take to get involved. I take it from DougE's post on PP BBS a helmet (got that covered, no use with the motorcycle for the past 3 years...). What else (harness...). I know someone had posted a link to requirements (vehicle stuff, insurance min's...) in the past.

What's the cost? PCA members only?

Guess I was looking in the wrong places.

Gordo, We are doing PCA Driver's Ed events at Summit Point, WVa. You can check out this website and find out whats involved and how to get signed up:
http://pcapotomac.org/pca/html/drivers__ed.shtml

There are other groups that sponsor track events at SP and other tracks -- BMW, Ferrari, Alfa clubs, etc. Many allow cars with the engines in the rear and are easier to get in than our local PCA, which stays pretty booked up. 8)

There are more experienced track drivers here that can give you more info. It's a lot of fun -- but can be addicting.

Gordo, is your helmet SA rated or M rated (typical for motorcycles)? PCA requires SA rated if I remember correctly.

I'd love to caravan out there on Sat. or Sun. I've had some "spirited" drives out to SP, WV. I have to be in Alex. until 10:00am Sat., but am free thereafter.

Rick,
The more the merrier. I don't think we've picked a day yet. I am free both days, so I'll leave it up to you and Jim.

I got into the March DE, but had to cancel last week because I have not had time to repair my brakes. I had major problems at the DE last November, including a frozen rear caliper and a warped rear rotor. Also had serious brake fade due to 5-1/2 month old fluid (ATE gold).

It hurt to back out of this event, as the only other one I got into is the August time trials (you know, 6 runs for the price of 8!). Hopefully I'm high enough on the wait list for June, July and November to actually get into those events. I did all 5 weekends at S.P. last year, and really got spoiled!

David - what do you mean "6 runs for the price of 8" regarding the August DE?

BTW, your braking problems sound just like mine did last spring. I replaced all rotors and hoses, rebuilt all calipers, added new pads and new fluid and the problem solved!

Ted & Jim - if Richard is with you then you'd better hope Ted remembers his detector! Just ask him about the time during one of our trips to SP that he came with-in a whisker of having his license revoked TWICE

Doug, I wonder if there's a way to get to SP that avoids all the main roads that are typically patrolled (e.g. Rt 7). Either that or we need to get Richard to be the "rabbit".

Jim - RT 7 is the fastest and most direct but if you want to have some fun:

a) RT 7 to RT 9 to Charles Town
b) RT 671 to RT 340 to Charles Town (671 was used in Fun Run #2)
c) RT 50 to RT 601 to RT 7 (601 also used in Fun Run #2)

Just some ideas off the top of my head ...
