Default Added a 2003 bmw 540 to the family

Not sure how one is supposed to follow Brian purchasing a GT2, but here's my "new car" thread.

Black Death has a big sister.

My dad had been saying he wanted to "consolidate" his Honda CRV and BMW and get a Mid-size SUV. I told him to be sure he checked with me before trading in the BMW. A few weeks ago he bought a Honda Pilot, and I picked up his BMW (and best of all, since I'm his favorite son named John I got it for the best price there is).

It has the M Sport Package, which I've read was only available in 2003 and includes pretty much everything from the M5, except the motor. I really like the car, although it would be nice to have it with the manual transmission.

It's got 90,000 miles - a lot of them highway from going on trips.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the 328. It's in good condition. A few cosmetic issues (like no Roundel on the trunk, headliner falling). Biggest current issue is that the airbag light is on and I haven't been able to fix it. The air conditioning hasn't worked too well the past few summers (that's how it got it's name which was given to the car by my kids) but I think we got that fixed this fall. I have to keep the 328 through the winter, because it has new winter tires on it. Pam wants to sell.....of course I'm thinking maybe I should turn it into more of a track car. My oldest is 14, so maybe we should hold onto it for when we add a driver to the family. I'd probably rather have her drive the 5 for safety reasons, especially if we never fix the airbag issue.

Here are some pics:

Nice car.

Keep your kid out of the 40 with the v8... it's got some zip.

*I've got "stuff" to help you diagnose either your E36 or E39 if you get in a bind.

** At 90k ... start thinking coolant system overhaul (radiator, water pump, t-stat, pulleys, belts, etc...) and look-up "valley pan leak" on bimmerforums.com or bimmerfest.com (intake gaskets, oil seperator valve / crankcase vent valve, valley pan & pipe/gaskets).

Had the exact same car in grey(M-sport). Really liked it. Unfortunately, I went to the M school in SC and 8 months later sold the 540i and bought an 06' M5........
Enjoy it and don't drive an M5!

Nice pickup.

If you decide to sell the 3er, please post here or at least tell me!

Nice get on the 5 series.. I would keep the 3 for the daughter. She'll be driving soon enough and once the airbag is fixed, she'll be plenty safe. besides, she can't afford keeping a V8 in premium fuel for long.
